Earthquakes At Full Moon

On Wednesday, November 24, 2010, Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) issued a release which denied the issue of prediction of earthquake on November 25, 2010, which circulated via SMS. BMKG rebuttal to the earthquake issue is not new. What was unusual this time is the issue of earthquakes associated with the condition of the full moon, which occurred on 25 November.

"Outstanding issues via SMS will be an earthquake that hit West Sumatra on 25 November 2010, when the full moon coincided with the magnitude of SR 11 with a duration of five minutes. BMKG stated that the issue was not false or misleading, because until now there has been an earthquake can be predicted , "said BMKG.

BMKG statement that until now have not been able to predict earthquakes, it is true. However, the theory that links between the terms of the full moon with an earthquake can not be ruled out. In his blog, Astronomy, Astrophysics Research Institute of Aviation and Space Agency (LAPAN) Thomas Djamaluddin said tidal effects caused by the full moon, the earth also affects the skin.

"Although his style is relatively small compared to the force that drives the Earth's plates and sections, it is believed that the tide could potentially trigger the release of energy that affects earthquake or volcano eruption," said Djamaluddin. Djamaluddin asserted, the full moon only acted as a trigger of the release of that energy. "Because in fact, is the sole energy accumulation in the skin of the earth's geological processes," he said
