Dangerous Driving For People Hemianopia

Be careful for penyetir car. Patients Hemianopia have limited views of the saw. Sometimes the objects that had seemed suddenly disappear or become dark. Patients Hemianopia very unsafe if you have to drive.

Hemianopia occurred partly due to a stroke or head injury. Researchers found patients with Hemianopia very difficult to detect pedestrians while driving, but for people with normal eye is clearly visible pedestrian.

The results of this study is in contrast with previous studies that patients with hemianopia is safe to drive. "Our research is to encourage efforts for Hemianopia patients can drive safely," said Dr. Alex Bowers, an assistant researcher at the Schepens as reported from autoevolution.

"The results of this study is very important, it means we must continue to look carefully to the people with these conditions and to evaluate the individual to determine the appropriate pattern for their driving," said Dr. Eli Peli, principal investigator on the study and senior scientist Schepens Eye Research Institute.

There are at least 22 states in the U.S. and many other countries that prohibit people with Hemianopia driving because they do not meet the requirements of the visual field of vision to get a driving license. They do not know why they could not see and often stumble when walking so that driving makes it more dangerous.

The scientists found that drivers who suffer Hemianopia average could only detect 45 percent of the pedestrians. The experts are currently working to determine whether an optical aid by expanding the field of view as to provide peripheral prism glasses can help drivers who suffer Hemianopia.
